Welcome to the official A2S2 website! The A2S2 initiative aims to support the global production of sufficient Artemisia/artemisinin to meet the expanded needs for ACTs for the fight against malaria. Market forces, left alone, will not allow the expansion of artemisinin supply needed to meet the ACT demand in 2010 and 2011. To address the immediate supply problem the A2S2 (Assured Artemisinin Supply System) initiative has been introduced with the financial support of UNITAID.

What do we do?

The mandate of A2S2 is two-fold:

• A2S2 provides a finance facility for artemisinin extractors selected by eligible ACT suppliers, offering pre-finance sales contracts of artemisinin within the existing extractor/manufacturer relationships.
• In addition, A2S2 provides market intelligence on the actual artemisinin supply situation, enhancing transparency and market-responsiveness.

Who are we?

The A2S2 initiative is executed by a partnership of four organizations: 

• i⁺solutions, to operate as the lead agency
• Triodos Sustainable Trade Fund, to manage the Pre-Finance Facility for the extractors
• FSC Development Services Ltd and AEDES Foundation plus OTECI, through Artepal, to provide the technical and industrial sector expertise
